50 Days To Go!

There are 50 days left until the 2011 Race for the Cure! I am so happy that we have 8 people registered for the team all ready. If you have any friends or family interested, please let them know we would like them to join our team as well.

For such a small team, we are doing amazing on Fundraising. Fundraising is optional. We have reached 52% of our $1,000 goal so far. Up to 75% of the net income from the Race stays right here in our community to fund vital breast cancer health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs. And the remaining 25% supports the Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grants Programs, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Team t-shirts will be $7 again this year. Please interoffice mail me the money if you would like one. I am still working on a new design that will incorporate the Pink Plano P. The deadline for team t-shirts will be May 28th.

Thank you!

8 Days Until The Main Event!

Hello! I am back from the funeral of my 80 year old grandma who was once a breast cancer survivor. I am happy to be honoring her at our Race For The Cure in 8 days. Breast cancer in children is extremely rare; however there have been some cases reported. One case was in a girl as young as 6! Please encourage your children to be proactive with their health. Make exercising a family affair. Walking or running in the Race for the Cure as a family will help them realize exercise can be fun!

Cure-saders Tidbits

Howdy Team!

Thank you all again for registering for the City of Plano Cure-saders team. We are now 21 members strong! The team is made up of people from Parks & Recreation, Legal, the Libraries, Customer & Utilities Services, & Human Resources. I am glad we could all come together for a common cause.

I would also like give a special thank you to all the men on our team. In 2005, over 1,750 mean developed breast cancer and over 350 died from it. In men, breast cancer can happen at any age, but is most common in men who are between 60 and 70 years old. Male breast cancer is not very common. For every 100 cases of breast cancer, less than 1 is in men. You know what they say; REAL men wear pink.

Here a just a few reminders about the upcoming race…

Thanks For The Good Times!

Hola Team!

I had a great time at the Race For The Cure last Saturday! Our final team count was 56 and around 30 teammates showed up for the team picture. I hope no one got too lost. Thank you to everyone who came. And congratulations to our raffle winner, Emma Fortenberry! She won a $25 gift card to Sports Authority. I heard she bought a new pair of shoes.

Fundraising – They are running the fundraising contest until June 30th this year. So, I am going to extend this contest until then. It will take me a few days after that to determine who has raised the most. The Friends For the Cure will mail your Komen prizes to you. Here is a link to more information: http://www.komennorthtexas.org/race_pledge.html.

Photos – Our team photo will be available soon on the internet. In the meantime, I would like to collect your personal photos. Please email them to me or send me a CD. I have created a blog for our team. The link is http://planocure-saders.blogspot.com/. I backdated it a little to include last year. If you find a picture you would like to save for yourself, you can click on it to enlarge it. Then right click and choose “Save Picture As...” Hopefully, this will ease the file sharing hassle. I am excited to see the race from your point of view!

Thank you again for joining the team and supporting this great cause. I look forward to another wonderful race next year!

Race Day Reminder

Bonjour Team! Here is just a little reminder for Saturday.

Carpooling – We will meet at Carpenter Park Recreation Center between 6:30 – 6:45 AM on race day. Please park behind the building in the west parking lot by the baseball fields. We will carpool/caravan to the Legacy Parking Lot on the EDS Campus. The line of traffic is always long! Legacy Drive will close at 7:30 AM. In your packets is a map of the course and parking. If we get separated or you can meet us for any reason, we will reconvene at the team photo area. It is highlighted on your map. We will meet there at 7:30 AM to get the picture taken. After that, you are on your own to run, walk, or stroll the race course!

Last Raffle – When we meet for carpooling and again at the team photo site, I will have slips of paper for you to write your name on. After we take the photo, we will draw a name and I will award the $25 Sports Authority gift card to that person. (Sorry, you can only win once!)

Fundraising – If you are fundraising, please make sure you have everything completed and mailed in by race day. It will take me a few days after that to determine who has raised the most. At the race, look for the Friends For the Cure table and claim your prizes from the Komen Foundation.

Chip Timing – If you paid for the time chip, don’t forget to pick up the actual chip before the race! Also, there will be a special section for you to start the race that you may enter at 7:45 AM.

I Know Someone Who Still Wants On The Team – Tell them to sign up on Race Day! There will be a booth there. The catch is, I will not be able to provide them with a team t-shirt or race packet. They will be able to pick it up themselves.

What To Wear – On race day, please wear your team t-shirt. Pin your race bib on the front of your shirt. Tributes to your loved ones are encouraged. Don’t forget sunscreen!

Please email me with any questions. See you then. Thanks for everything!

Packet Pickup Reminder

G’day Team! This is a long one, so I have broken it down for you.

Packets – Packet pickup is tomorrow at your designated locations. If you have not replied to me, your packet will be at Carpenter Park Recreation Center. Some people paid for their packets to come in the mail. For paid mailers, what you will be picking up tomorrow will not include the items from the Komen Foundation. Please let me know if you are missing anything.
